Streamlined Workflow

1. Import Images

1. Import Images

Upload a few images that are representative of your sample: as few as 1-10 images will give adequate results.

2. Annotate

2. Annotate

Using simple painting tools fill in the areas of the image that correspond to the background and the features you wish to detect. This action is usually done on one to a few images depending on the complexity of the application.

3. Train

3. Train

Hit the Train button to proceed with the automatic prediction on the whole series of imported images. In typical use cases this process takes approximately 8 to 30 seconds.

4. Obtain Results

4. Obtain Results

Once you have finished fine-tuning a segmentation algorithm you can simply download it as a plugin and use it to obtain results with the latest version of Clemex Vision.

Applications using AI

Our image analysis software is exceptionally flexible, allowing for any number of distinct routines to be run on the same system. These routines come packaged as a library of existing applications or can be developed by our applications specialists.

Determining percentage of nodularity

Determining percentage of nodularity

Flakes are a defect of nodularity. During magnesium treatment flakes are transformed into nodules. Any remaining flakes are considered defects. Adequate training of the Clemex Studio algorithm has proven successful in detecting the nodules and flakes automatically to get accurate …

Measurement of ferrite/austenite phases

Measurement of ferrite/austenite phases

Delta Ferrite is a common phase in austenitic stainless steel. The etching of this corrosion resistant material is sometimes challenging and the resulting phases are often affected by various intensity rendering (stains), making it difficult to use traditional thresholding. With …

Frequently asked questions

What is Clemex Vision AI?

Clemex Studio is an intuitive AI-powered platform designed to create image segmentation algorithms for microscopy. It allows users to distinguish different phases or particles in images rapidly using artificial intelligence, without needing advanced programming skills.

How does the segmentation in Clemex Vision AI work?

The process is streamlined into four simple steps:

  1. Import: Upload a few representative images (usually 1–10).

  2. Annotate: Use simple painting tools to mark the features you want to detect.

  3. Train: Click the train button; the AI usually generates a prediction in 8 to 30 seconds.

  4. Results: Download the finished algorithm as a plugin for use in Clemex Vision.

How many images do I need to train the AI?

One of the key advantages of Clemex Studio is its efficiency. For many applications, adequate results can be achieved with as few as 1 to 10 images. In some cases, training on a single image is sufficient.

How is Clemex Vision AI different from traditional thresholding?

Traditional thresholding often fails when samples have uneven etching, stains, or complex color intensities. Clemex Studio uses trainable machine learning algorithms that can "learn" to distinguish features (like Delta Ferrite or porosity) even under challenging visual conditions that traditional methods cannot handle.

Can I use Clemex Vision AI with SEM images?

Yes. Clemex Studio is highly effective with various imaging sources, including Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM). It has been successfully used for complex tasks like analyzing pollen or cross-sectioned cathodes from lithium-ion batteries.

What specific applications can be analyzed?

Common applications include:

  • Nodularity: Detecting nodules vs. flakes in magnesium-treated materials.

  • Phase Analysis: Measuring ferrite, austenite, or sigma phases in stainless steel.

  • Porosity: Calculating the percentage and area of pores in aluminum castings for quality assurance.

  • Mineralogy: Segmenting mineral particle clusters in resin.

Is there support available if I get stuck?

Yes. You can request assistance directly within Clemex Studio. Unlike many automated platforms, Clemex provides support from real human experts to help you with your specific analysis challenges.
